Villages are one of the most useful Overworld structures because they can provide food, beds, tools, and iron from the Iron Golem. A fast village route can help you enter The Nether on pace.
Tips: Speedrunners often use a technique called pie-ray to help locate villages. This will be covered later in the Nether chapter.

Village Tips
If the Iron Golem only drops 3 iron ingots, reset or consider wood lighting.
If you are playing a desert village, collect wood and cobblestone before entering the village.
Try to leave the village in under 5 minutes.
Learn to identify Blacksmith houses quickly.
Some unique houses may also contain iron tools.

Desert Temple
Desert temples can provide useful loot and TNT. They can be a strong option when found early, especially in desert routes.
Tips: Grab enough TNT to blow up trees and Gravel if needed.
Ruined Portal
Ruined portals can provide useful loot and sometimes allow a fast Nether entry. Loot the chest, mine the gold block, and grab any useful tools or food.
Tips: If you cannot craft an Iron Pickaxe in the Overworld, you may still be able to get iron later from a Bastion chest.
Shipwreck
Shipwrecks can provide iron, especially from the back of the ship. However, they are usually only worth playing if they are close enough and provide enough resources.
Shipwrecks can provide iron from the back section.
If the Shipwreck is not within roughly 5 chunks of your island, mine 3 logs first. Then craft a wooden axe, mine 7-10 logs, craft a boat and a set of doors before heading to the shipwreck.
I don't recommend playing a Shipwreck Overworld unless it is a full shipwreck, because full shipwrecks have a better chance of providing enough food before entering The Nether.
Buried Treasure
Buried treasure can provide consistent resources, but it is a more advanced strategy.

Nether Entrance
After collecting the required resources, the next goal is to enter The Nether quickly. The most common methods are using a lava pool, a magma ravine, or a ruined portal.
Lava Pool
Using lava pools is a common and reliable way to build a Nether Portal.

Building a Nether Portal Without Flint and Steel
If you do not have flint and steel, you can use wood lighting to ignite the Nether Portal.
Lava pools are more common in deserts.
If your village is not near a coast where you could enter through a magma ravine, consider finding a lake or cave and digging down to Y11 for lava.
Try to enter the Nether no later than the 8 minute mark.
Magma Ravine
Magma Ravines can be used to enter The Nether from the ocean. They are useful when your route is near a coast.
Locating a Magma Ravine
Press F3 + B to turn on hitboxes. If you see floating kelp in the ocean, there is most likely a Magma Ravine below it.

Ruined Portal
A Ruined Portal can sometimes be used as a fast Nether entrance if the chest and portal layout are useful.
